SONG
BITES…
Listen to recent vocal recordings of the “Love Journey,” CD,
and a holiday selection from “Celebrate!”by Barry Sames. It
is a pleasure to offer you a taste of some of the music I have enjoyed working
on for the past two years. I hope you feel it…
“LOVE JOURNEY” Only God and I know how long awaited this adventure
has been.A work of Love and dedication! A lifeline that speaks to my spirit…“Love
Journey” is just that! It is a project that I have longed to complete
for quite awhile.
I knew at nine years of age that I wanted to become a vocalist; a professional
entertainer. And while my parents would forbid me to do “that music,”
I yearned even more to beckon to its call. As I sneaked every week to the
Uptown Theater to witness some of the most phenomenal performers that this
world has EVER seen, I imagined that I too would have my opportunity.
Each time I practiced like every other little girl who aspired to be Diana
Ross, Nancy Wilson, Sarah Vaughn, Mary Wells, or Martha & the Vandellas,
I, too so desperately wanted to have my just do on stage. Did anyone owe
me anything? No! Was I entitled to this career? No! But, as I stood as a
back-up vocalist, and marveled behind Billy, and Teddy, I thought, “will
I ever get an chance to give my spirit’s testimony about life?”
Still, I would raise a family, complete an undergraduate and masters degree,
work in various other fields while continuing to perform and record with
many others…evenings & weekends, and even teach voice with the
same passion I hold for my own professional world. I kept my eye on the
prize, and then...it would fade inadvertedly… in the shadows, but
I would pray, and catch a glimpse. Then, reach out to other passing stars
while “that music” played dodge ball with my heart and spirit.
Still, I am not one to give up very easily. I may venture off to focus on
my immediate target for a moment when I am preoccupied, but I NEVER leave
anything undone. It is just not in my spirit. So, as I stand on the threshold
of this my first CD project, I am anxious like an expecting mother…choosing
the right doctors to assist me with delivery, Gerald, Barry, Dr. Gibbs,
Warren, “Wretched,” and others who are “Practicioners”
along the way. I realize I am the only one who can deliver this project.
But, it is difficult… I have never done this before. Still, I believe
this is a part of my purpose, my life work, a part of my journey through
life, to Sing and Teach. So, the labor pains are TOUGH,( minimal funds for
great musicians and production, limited time, and material,) but I am just
about at full term now…Thank you, Lord for letting me get this far.
I will wait on your promise…
